Sheffield Swampfrogs V Newcastle Under 12s D2, 28th March 2009
Final Score: Sheffield 12, Newcastle 1
Newcastle made the journey south to IceSheffield for their 15th game of the season and yet to pick up a win, an event that would be an uphill task from this game as Sheffield took the lead after 23 seconds. Sheffield dominated the first period racking up six goals for one against. Sheffield in an attempt to try a few line changes and new tactics looked a little flat but closed out the first period with highlights coming from a first period hatrick from CJ Lee and a fine breakaway goal from D Man Adam Cooper. The second period started where the first left off with Connor Parker rounding off a fine performance with his second goal 1 min 10 seconds into the period. The following passage of play showcased the 2nd line offensive threat as Courtney Aheran, Jack Pigott and Connor Parker put Newcastle under constant pressure. They got their just rewards with MOM Jack Pigott scoring a straight hatrick all in one shift! The period was rounded off with an eleventh goal from Connor Ritchie after cutting in from the right wing and firing near post. The final period saw a cameo performance from Newcastle’s netminder who showed great resilience to keep Sheffield scoring at bay. The final goal came at 38.37 when Ollie Simms scored his second of the game with a short handed breakaway after Adam Cooper was sin binned for his second 2 min penalty of the game. The game wasn’t a classic but highlights will be remembered alongside Jack’s Hatrick. Chelsea Aheren making her Ice Hockey debut getting involved for the first time this season and not looking out of place in the game. As ever line 3 and 4s tenacious forechecking is quickly becoming a trade mark for Toby and Aaron while the Sheffield Defence look ever dependable with an excellent shot percentage in the league. Final Score Sheffield 12, Newcastle 1.
