Under 12 Division 1    Telford Venom v Sheffield Lazers

 Date: 21.02.09   Final score: 3 - 3

Face Off: 15.15   Spirit of the game: Cole Shudra

The first period started with Sheffield taking the game to Telford, they applied steady pressure and came close to getting the opener with an excellent back handed attempt from Joe Colton which just bobbled past the grasp of Telford’s net minder. Telford looked very jittery in the early stages allowing Sheffield to pass the puck around without much danger of an interception which allowed Liam Kirk to put in an excellent long range shot. The Lazers were showing good composure and with them moving the puck around easily the opening goal came on 3.57 when Cole Shudra fired in an excellent long range shot past the beleaguered Telford minder. The whole Lazers team were really showing great determination and were pushing Telford back over their blue line which enabled Cole to net his second on 4.35 a clever back handed effort the result of an excellent clearance from the Lazers defense. Sheffield were having most of the play with Telford finding it difficult to clear their lines and make a worth while break through.
Ollie Stubbs came close to getting a third for Sheffield following a break through the centre from Jack Whitlam, at this point Telford began to find their feet and were able to push Sheffield back and came close to getting their opener following a well crafted move from a defensive position. Telford’s more determined approach resulted in them conceding a penalty but try as they might Sheffield were unable to capitalize, once Telford are back to full strength Sheffield conceded a penalty and with Telford having the bit firmly between their teeth they manage to squeeze a goal. With this goal Telford now launch a persistent attack on the Lazers goal but with Kyle Smith and Tom Barry working well together in defense they managed to prevent any further goals. Jack and Sam Whitlam followed by Joe Colton and Cole Shudra all come close to scoring but the period finished rather frustratingly for Sheffield.

The second period started poorly for Sheffield as Telford came at them from the start, before Sheffield had time to organize them selves Telford got the equalizer and further confusion moments later amongst the Sheffield players allowed Telford to take the lead. After a quick rethink Sheffield regained some composure with Liam Kirk and Tom Barry both coming close with long range shots but with the Telford minder growing in confidence it was going to be difficult to find an opening. Sheffield conceded another penalty which handed the advantage to Telford but thankfully they are unable to capitalize. Once Sheffield got back to full strength they picked up the tempo as the clock started to tick by and with Joe Colton and Cole Shudra working well came close to a goal but once again they are thwarted by the Telford minder, the game entered a rather anxious stage at this point as Sheffield tried but failed to find a way through and finding space was becoming a problem for Sheffield, Tom Barry collected the puck deep in his own half and made a long weaving move on the Telford goal but once again the net minder preventing the equalizer. Kyle Smith smashes in a strong shot but to no avail and it was starting to look like defeat for Sheffield until following a scramble in the Telford goal mouth which enabled man of the match Cole Shudra to get the well deserved and anxiously  awaited equalizer with less than a minute remaining on the clock. Sheffield tried to take the lead in the final seconds but the Telford defense held firm and the match finished all square.
